The Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 Website

Some Interesting Websites to Visit

Carrera 3.0 Related Websites

Websites devoted to the Carrera 3 are few and far between but here are a couple.

From the UK Carrera3.co.uk chronicles in superb detail the restoration of a silver Carrera 3 Coupe, which is now resident in Ireland and can be seen in the photo gallery as 'Ciaran's Car'.

From the United States, where the Carrera 3 is a very rare sight indeed, comes this excellent site which also tells the story of the restoration and development of a beautiful blue example.

Carrera 3s on Video

Finding examples of Carrera 3s on video isn't easy but here are a couple of excellent examples.

First, here's a superb white Carrera 3 Targa - just listen to that noise! (Thanks to Bert on Impactbumpers.com for this link - nice one Bert)

Next, a link to one of John Glynn's series of youtube videos chronicalling the development of his Orange Carrera 3.

Finally here's a Porsche promotional video of a 911 targa which looks like it's from the same era as the Carrera 3, if not a Carrera 3 itself

Impactbumpers.com

Impactbumbers.com is an enthusiasts' website dedicated to all models of the 911 produced between 1974 and 1989. For Carrera 3 people, there's a dedicated forum (along with the 2.7 models) where owners and fans of the Carrera 3 can exchange information and chat about the cars. There are also track days, meets and drives. It's well worth registering to gain full access to all of the forum content, and to follow the story of the magnificent orange Carrera 3 coupe featured in the site's banner. Highly recommended for all 911 people.

Porsche Classic

Porsche itself provides lots of interesting stuff about its old models as part of its Porsche Classic programme. The only directly relevant material for the Carrera 3 is a copy of the complete original Porsche parts catalogue available as a PDF download from here, but there's lots of interesting things to look at and listen to including the sounds of two impact-bumpered 911s, an SC/RS from 1984 and a Carrera 3.2 from 1988, both of which sound very similar to a Carrera 3

Porsche Club Great Britain

PCGB is a good source of material for fans of older 911s. There's plenty of interesting 911 content in most issues of the club's magazine 'Porsche Post', and for Carrera 3 people the club runs a 911 2.7 Carrera and 3.0 Register. Occasionally, there's an article in the magazine of special interest to Carrera 3 aficionados, like the April 2003 feature on a 1977 911 Carrera 3 Sport Targa, very similar to my own, doing the Euroclassic Rally from Paris to Valencia - a round trip of nearly 3000 miles all-in, including the run from the UK to Paris and back.

The club's web site can be found here.

Technical Topics

If you've ever wondered how the Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection system on a Carrera 3 works then there's an excellent explanation of how all of its various components work together at Auto-solve.com. I found this site very useful when I needed to understand how the injection system works on my car and, at the time of writing, I believe it needs a new warm-up regulator to overcome several minutes of jerkiness following a cold start (if you want a quick run down of the history of Bosch's Jetronic fuel injection systems, check out this wikipedia entry).

Another interesting site is pelicanparts.com an American site full of useful information about 911s, from engine rebuilds to concours preparation. Unfortunately, because it's an American site, it doesn't cover the Carrera 3 in as much depth as other 911 models (the model wasn't sold across the Atlantic). Interesting and useful all the same.
